Meet Dr. Nicolaas P. DeRuyter
Ophthalmology
Dr. Nicolaas P. DeRuyter was born in Yakima, Washington and was raised in both Central Washington and neighboring Idaho. He obtained his undergraduate degree at Seattle University, majoring in business economics. He then pursued a medical degree at the University of Washington.
Following medical school, he migrated south to complete his ophthalmology residency at the Vanderbilt Eye Institute in Nashville, Tennessee, where he served as Chief Resident. He stayed on at Vanderbilt to complete his surgical retina fellowship.
He is interested in ophthalmic imaging and advanced medical and surgical techniques for many retinal conditions, including diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, and retinal vein occlusions. Dr. DeRuyter specializes in treatment of complex retinal detachments, epiretinal membranes, macular holes, and secondary lens surgeries. Furthermore, he has strong interest in pediatric vitreoretinal conditions, including retinopathy of prematurity, stickler syndrome, and secondary lens procedures for dislocated lenses.
Outside of work, Dr. DeRuyter enjoys yoga, strength training, architecture and design, reading, travel, and is never afraid to admit his love for reality television.
He is excited to join PNWR and care for patients in the Seattle, Bellevue, and Ellensburg locations.
Dr. DeRuyter is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology (ABO) and is a member of the American Society of Retina Specialists (ASRS) and American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO).
